Why should I create an account?

How do I upload my stuff?

OK, I'm a member of tHP, I've created an account and I'm signed in, but I still don't see the "Submit Article" link.  What should I do?

I've been told I have a "Member Page" but I don't see it when I click "View | Member Pages".  Where is it?

What's the difference between blog, news and reviews?  Does it matter where I put something?

Who can post a review?

Ok, I've posted an article but I can't find it. Where did it go?

Why should I create an account?

Creating an account gives you access to additional content.

How do I upload my stuff?

Use the Submit Article link. (Only members of the Herscher Project can submit articles.)

Give your article an appropriate title and type or paste the content. For front-page articles choose the appropriate Section (or "misc" if your item doesn't seem to fit an available choice) and the appropriate Category. Make sure you select the "Yes" buttons for "Published" and "Show on Front Page".

For personal page articles choose "Member Pages" for the Section and your own name for the Category. Make sure you choose "Yes" for "Published". You may choose an Alias as well as Start and End Dates for publishing if you like. Set the Access Level to "Public" for everybody, "Registered" for just those who bother to log in and "Special" for only members of the Herscher Project. Optionally, you may use the Description field to summarize your article and Keywords to aid search engines in locating it.

We need to set you up as an "Author" with a "Member Page."  Send an email to Chuck, Steve or Jim and one of them will take care of it for you.

I've been told I have a "Member Page" but I don't see it when I click "View | Member Pages".  Where is it?

Search / View | Member Pages only lists those who have added content to their page. Once you upload something (use the "Submit Article" link) your member page will show up in the list.

What's the difference between blog, news and reviews? Does it matter where I put something?

Think of a blog as a journal or diary.  Use it for whatever you want, rant, rave, etc.  News is a place for things like press releases.  Got a book coming out?  A blog tour going on?  Reviews are for book or movie reviews.  You can post a review for a book you've written or a review you've written for someone else's book.

It doesn't really matter where you put something.  For convenience we've put categories under Search / View so people can look at just blogs, news or reviews.  But if you post something on the front page, whatever category you choose, it will show up.

Who can post a review?

Any Herscher Project member can post a review, but please read this first: What is a Review? by Joshua S Hill.

So if you've read a book and would like to make a recommendation to others, go ahead and post a serious review.  We're not looking for a "Yeah, it was a pretty cool book."  We would prefer high quality reviews of roughly 300 to 500 words.

A point you should remember is that you don't have to sell a bad novel with your review.  People demand that a book review will answer only one question: "Should I take the time to read this book?"

If you like a book, tell us why without telling us the story.  A line or two about the author can also be of interest if that has some significance in relation to the book (e.g., an author's first novel, a new book from an award-winning author, or even something like an historical account of a war by an author who experienced it firsthand).

If you don't like a book, it's okay to say so.  What you should keep in mind is that you should substantiate your opinion with reasons and/or examples, especially if you have a negative opinion of a book.

Ok, I've posted an article but I can't find it. Where did it go?

You've probably forgotten to set the Section and Category or perhaps set them incorrectly. Click Search / View and put the title of your article in the search box. Once you've found it click on it and use the Edit icon to set the Section and Category correctly. If you still can't find your article, send an email to Steve or Chuck.
